17 Cyber-Security Vendors That Raised New Funding in April 2018
April was another busy month for cyber-security startups, with venture capitalists funding at least seven such companies. The largest amount raised during the month was a $31 million round that went to business-critical application security vendor Onapsis. Armis raised nearly as much, bringing in $30 million to help the company advance its internet of things (IoT) security software. Another large amount went to container security startup StackRox, which announced a $25 million round of funding to help advance its efforts to improve digital identity. 2Threat X Raises $8.2M for WAF
On April 4, Threat X announced that it had raised $8.2 million in a Series A round of funding to help advance the company’s software-as-a-service (SaaS) web application firewall (WAF) technology. “Our goal is to help organizations protect their applications with a SaaS-based web application firewall that provides a holistic view of every attack, the techniques being utilized and target vulnerabilities,” Bret Settle, Threat X founder and CEO, stated. “Our behavioral profiling and correlation engine analyzes each attack and eliminates false positives by grading risk level and progress throughout the kill-chain.”
3Armis Raises $30M for IoT Security
Armis announced on April 9 that it raised $30 million in a Series B round of funding to support the expansion of the company’s internet of things (IoT) security visibility technologies. “Organizations now recognize that connected device security is no longer a ‘nice to have,’ but is a top priority for every boardroom and C-suite,” Yevgeny Dibrov, CEO and co-founder of Armis, said. “Our agentless software provides visibility and control over every device. We’ve allowed security teams to achieve goals without disrupting their businesses’ digital transformation journeys.”

6OPAQ Raises $22.5M for Network Security in the Cloud
On April 11, OPAQ Networks announced that it raised $22.5 million in a Series B round of funding. OPAQ’s cloud platform provides network security as a service to enterprises including WAF, DDoS mitigation and micro-segmentation features. “OPAQ Networks has built and delivered the most advanced high-performance platform for providing Fortune 100-grade network security to midsize enterprises, a capability that has been missing in this segment of the market due to deployment complexity, lack of resources and affordability,” Glenn C. Hazard, chairman and CEO of OPAQ Networks, stated.
7Empow Secures $10M for SIEM
On April 12, Empow announced that it raised $10 million in a Series B round of funding to support its next-generation Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platform. “With Empow, what was a morass of complex, expensive, non-communicative tools becomes a silo-busting, intent-based orchestration engine,” Peter George, CEO of Empow, stated. “Empow is able to harvest capabilities from any existing security infrastructure—addressing each threat with the right investigations and responses.”
8Onapsis Raises $31 Million for ERP Cyber-Security
Onapsis announced on April 13 that it raised $31 million in a Series C funding round. Onapsis is in the business of helping organizations secure their business-critical applications, including SAP and Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
